I'd normally look for in below order: support (technical support is very important), value for price (you will get what you pay for), uptime and reliability!
GTHost.com vps (https://gthost.com/virtual-private-servers/) is way above any hosting service I've previously experienced and nothing is too much trouble for their support staff. If they had an 11 in their rating I'd have used it.
