I host two different sites with zakservers.com and hostingsource.com server hosts. They are far and away the best hosting service I have ever had pleasure to use.
They are prompt with their customer service and tech support, and always send out greatly appreciated notices of maintenance well in advance.

Shared Hosting vs VPS Hosting: A Comparison. The main difference between shared hosting and VPS is that shared hosting provides a package that is already configured and ready to use, limiting your customization options, whereas VPS allows you to configure it however you want.

I am very satisfied with GTHost.com instant servers. Uptime and reliability has been outstanding. Their servers are solid stable and never have a problem.

Personally I'm satisfied with QHoster.com server hosting. It is a great hosting site for the basics for development - cpanel, PHP/MySQL, and plenty of space for cheap.
The service, both as a web host and in dealing with customers, has been most satisfactory. Uptime has always been in the high 90s.
