A fast VPS is useful, but I would personally feel much more comfortable with a provider that also takes recovery and customer support seriously. That is one reason I have stayed with hostpro.com, where daily backups are created for all services and can be used to restore data after damage, unsuccessful updates, or hacking. I have also found the VPS performance reliable for my own use, so I am not choosing them purely because of the backup policy.
